**Information about 2011-2012 SAFA/BAP Executive Board Elections!!**
When: Thursday March 31st

A description of the positions on the board is attached to this e-mail. All
members are welcome to apply! Everyone is welcome to attend but only
members can vote. This is a great leadership opportunity with a very
connected student organization!
For those interested, you will have the opportunity to apply for **TWO**
positions. You will need to:
- Prepare a 45 second to 1 minute speech for each position to present to
those attending the election
- Write a 1 page bio with a small picture of yourself. This bio should have
information about your previous leadership experience, why you believe that
you would be a good candidate for both positions, what contributions you
can make to SAFA/BAP, and any interesting information about yourself! These
will be printed out and put into packets for voting members.

**Forensic Accounting with the IRS!!**
When: Thursday, March 31st
Time: 6-7pm
Where: CSOM Room L-122
Join SAFA and the IRS to learn about what it’s like to be in the field of
forensic accounting! They will also present on their “Field Specialist”
program with various financial opportunities. Food will be provided as
always!
**Site Visit to PricewaterhouseCoopers!**
When: Friday, April 8th
Time: 12:00-3:00pm
Where: PwC Downtown Minneapolis office
SAFA/BAP and WIB will be taking a site visit to Pricewaterhouse Coopers! There will be a panel discussion about a career in public accounting and the different career paths! We will also be taking a tour of the office! The event is geared towards underclassman who may have an interested in
Accounting.
**Registration for this event is required and is only open to paid members.** Spots are limited, so if you are interested, please send your name to safa@umn.edu by **Sunday, April 3rd**. We will be driving to the site visit, so the number of people that will be able to go will be limited by the number of drivers that we have. **5K Volunteer Committee**
Another way to get involved with SAFA/BAP!! We are in need of volunteers on
the day of the SAFA/BAP Race for Ronald 5K for set-up, registration,
food/water distribution, timing and clean-up. We will need volunteers from
8:30am to about 1:00pm. If you are able to help at all during these times,

**Accounting Volunteer opportunity with LBLCO!!**
Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Co. is looking for a student volunteer to help a non-profit organization out that they have connections with by using an accounting tool called Quickbooks. **Traveler’s Leadership Night with SAFA/BAP! ** – Thursday February 17th
Where: McNamra Alumni Center-Maroon and Gold Room
Time: 6-8:30pm
Dress: Business Casual
Come and network with Travelers professionals while developing your teamwork and leadership skills. This will be a workshop type format and will be very interactive. Dinner will be provided!
** Volunteer for BAM’s Angel Benefit Concert!**
BAM will be hosting its annual Angel Benefit Concert on Thursday, March 10th from 5:30-7:30 in the Great Hall. There will be several musical acts and tickets will only be $5! All proceeds will go to Kiva.org, a micro-loan organization.
They would like some help with volunteering for the event and we would like to encourage you to help this great cause! Here are the volunteering time slots. You can volunteer for as much or as little time as you are able and do not have to stay for a complete shift:
1pm-5:00pm: Set up (decorations, table arrangements, prepping food)
5:00-7:30pm: Running the event (serving food, moving band equipment, keeping
things clean, prepping food in kitchen)
7:30-9:30pm: Clean up (take down, removing decorations, etc.)
If you would like to volunteer for the event and/or if you would like to help *sell tickets* for the event, please contact Erik Lean at leanx003@umn.edu by March 1st. If you will be volunteering for the event, please let him know the specific times that you would be available.
**Relay for Life – Large Group Meeting coming up!**
For all of you who signed up to be part of the SAFA/BAP Relay for Life team, it is coming up quickly! Please watch for an e-mail about a team meeting that will happen in the next couple of weeks. We will be brainstorming and planning fundraisers! Remember to keep fundraising on your own!
**Marketing committee for SAFA/BAP events**
Are you looking for a way to get more involved with SAFA/BAP? Would you like to help us promote our large events? Then join the SAFA/BAP marketing committee! **SAFA/BAP and KPMG on Opportunities in Tax** - Thursday, February 3rd
Where: CSOM Room L-122
When 6-7pm
Come join us and professionals from KPMG, a large public accounting firm, as they speak about different opportunities and careers in Tax accounting. This will be a really good look into this field with a growing number of job opportunities! As always, there will be free food!
**Site visit to Piper Jaffray** - Friday February 11th
Tentative Time: 2-4pm (The exact time is still being finalized – more info this week)
Where: Piper Jaffray Office in downtown Minneapolis
Come learn about a career in Investment banking with Piper Jaffray! You will be able to hear from professionals and also get a tour of the office and of the trading floor! This will be a great opportunity to get a close look at this field, ask questions, and to network!

**SAFA/BAP Spring Kick-off!**
When: This Tuesday, January 25th
Where: Sally’s Saloon on Washington Avenue (Near Superblock)
Time: 6:30-8:00 pm
Companies in Attendance: Deloitte, KPMG, Best Buy, Ingersoll Rand, PwC, Ernst and Young, Baker Tilly, and Wells Fargo
Come join us for SAFA’s kickoff to the spring semester at Sally’s! You will have a chance to network with companies, see what SAFA/BAP has in store for spring and reconnect with other SAFA/BAP members! We have a discounted membership rate of $15 for new members joining this spring. Current and new members can pick up their t-shirts also. A fajita bar will be provided!
**BAP Meeting and Spring Initiation** – Required for BAP candidates and members
When: This Wednesday, January 26th

This will be a meeting to initiate our BAP members that meet full membership requirements. We will also discuss plans for this semester and committee updates. Subs will be served!

**Grant Thornton Information Session** - Wednesday, January 26th
Grant Thornton, a medium size accounting firm in Minneapolis, will be hosting an Information Session on campus this Wednesday, January 26 at 5:00p.m. This is the same day as the career fair. The info session will be located in Hanson Hall.
